Not your average puppet show, Comedy Central's Crank Yankers used its cloth protagonists to annoy those who sorely needed annoying. The series grew from a series of radio vignettes, created by Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel, in which professional actors and comedians, posing as "just folks," used their telephones as weapons of mass destruction, harassing and browbeating such aural "terrorists" as irritating telemarketers, fatuous psychics, smarmy fundraisers, and phone-sex entrepreneurs. The results were invariably hilarious, though one rather pitied the fools who had the misfortune of being on the receiving end of the puppets' pranks.
